Does anybody know what kind of tree produces these beautiful violet flowers? I´ve been seeing all kinds of them here in Spain and they are lovely, but I have no idea what they are.
I love the narrow streets in the Gothic neighborhood, where Picasso and his friends used to hang out. Some of the roads are too narrow for cars, and the majority of them can´t accommodate more than one lane and sidewalks on either side. Barcelona was overcrowded inside its city walls for a long time, so that may explain the tight groupings. But the narrow streets also provide a lot of shade in the heat of summertime.
Barcelona´s Arc de Triomf this afternoon. They were about to stage a concert, but it was cold and rainy (and in soundcheck the singer sounded like Linda Ronstadt) so I didn´t stay.
Of course I couldn't resist the challenge of figuring out what the trere with the purple flowers is called! I suspect it is genus Jacaranda, which is also the common name. If it was a fragrant tree with trumpet shaped blossoms that's probably it. They are found all over the world, including in southern California. It's originally from Brazil and has approximately 50 species.
